Welcome to the pages of The Hellenic Crystallographic Association.
The Hellenic Crystallographic Association was established at 2001. It aims to promote and support research and education in the fields of crystallography and structure in Greece, to organize biannually a society conference held alternately in Athens and other major Greek university cities, to represent Greece in international scientific organizations and conferences, and to raise the public awareness in the science of crystallography and structure.
The International Conference on Applied Crystallography is organized regularly every three years by the Institute of Materials Science, University of Silesia, Poland. The conference gives opportunity for scientists in the field of crystallography, materials science, solid state physics and chemistry to present their results regarding investigations of the materials used in technology and medicine. Conference topics include the development of X-ray, electron and neutron structure investigation methods, crystallography of phase transformations, computational methods in crystallography, structure determination of: metals and alloys, crystals, quasicrystals, nanomaterials, ceramics, polymers and thin films. The conferences is regularly participated by recognized experts in the above mentioned fields. The conference will be held from 20th to 24th September 2015 in Krynica Zdrój, Poland. Presentations will be published in a special volume of scientific journal with Impact Factor (approx. 0.6).
Recently, invitation to participate in the conference as a honorary invited speaker accepted Nobel laureate, Prof. Dan Shechtman.
All information about the conference are available on the website:
by the InnovCrete programme and the Hellenic
Local Organizers: M. Kokkinidis & K. Petratos
Main Topics (tentative) will include:
a) Macromolecular Crystallography: Advances in Refinement and Phasing, Crystallization and crystal treatment, Protein-Nucleic acid complexes, Membrane proteins, Structure and function of biomacromolecules
b) XFEL and time resolved crystallography methods
c) Hybrid approaches (SAXS, EM etc)
d) additional topics of special interests of the HeCrA community
Workshop on “Strategic
pipeline planning: from sample preparation to 3D structure
determination with bio SAXS and other biophysical
techniques” co-organised with National Hellenic Research
Hellenic Research Foundation in Athens, Greece.
2014: Events for International Year of Crystallography in Greece:
crystallography and its impact in science and applications
for students of secondary education.
These events will be held in 2014 and will take place in the schools or during educational visits of the students in academic institutions, such as Agricultural University of Athens, NCSR "Demokritos", University of Patras and others.
crystal growing competition;
competition on output inspired by Crystallography, e.g.
photographic, video etc.
Details will be given in the website of HeCrA (www.hecra.gr ). The students may simultaneously participate in the International Crystal?growing Competition organised by IUCr.
